Summer schools in Baroque and Renaissance music for singers and instrumentalists, in a traditional Cambridge college.
Singers seeking a challenging and enjoyable summer course are invited to spend a week in Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, singing Renaissance or Baroque music and receiving tuition from some exceptionally gifted and inspiring tutors. Sing one-to-a-part in small groups with instrumentalists playing period instruments, and in larger groups as a choir, exploring a fabulous variety of music by Purcell and Blow (Baroque week) or Senfl and Isaac (Renaissance week). Our vocal tutor, Philip Thorby, is one of the most highly sought-after directors of early music workshops, and a week spent with him and his co-tutors is an unforgettable experience. Our courses are small, so you will quickly get to know everyone, and groups are individually tailored to participants’ standards and interests. For confident singers with good sight-reading, these courses offer a hugely rewarding and enjoyable immersion in early music, in a supportive and friendly atmosphere and inspiring surroundings. Each week includes two tutors’ concerts and a final performance by course participants.
